“Get out—my son is marrying a real woman today,” my mother-in-law hissed, blocking me from the driveway while eighty guests watched. Start with the house.”

Synopsis

“Your husband is marrying a real woman today. Take your suitcase and get off his property.” Margaret said it at my own gate, in front of eighty guests, while a string quartet played under the white tent I had paid for. For three seconds, I heard nothing but the tiny squeak of my suitcase wheel turning on the driveway.
