The bathroom counter felt like ice under my hands.
Two pink lines.
After three years of trying, crying, injections, and quiet heartbreak… it finally happened.
I pressed my palm to my stomach, smiling through tears. I had imagined this moment a hundred times—running downstairs, wrapping my arms around Tyler, telling him we were finally going to be a family.
I stepped into the hallway, holding the test like something sacred.
Then I heard his voice.
“Don’t worry, babe. I’m leaving her tonight.”
Everything inside me froze.
“She has no idea,” Tyler continued, laughing softly. “I’ve already moved the money offshore. Once I’m gone, she’s stuck with the debt. You and I will be in Zurich before she even realizes she’s broke.”
My heart slammed against my ribs.
Zurich. Offshore accounts. Leaving me with nothing.
“I love you too,” he said. “Pack the bags.”
Silence.
Then the creak of his chair.
I backed away before he could see me, my mind racing so fast it felt like it might split open. This wasn’t just cheating.
This was calculated.
Dangerous.
I didn’t confront him. I didn’t cry.
I grabbed my purse, my keys, and walked downstairs like everything was normal.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
“Target,” I said. “We’re out of coffee.”
He smiled, relaxed instantly. “Hurry back. We need to talk.”
“Oh, we will,” I said, stepping out the door.
The second I got into the car, my hands started shaking.
Then my phone buzzed.
Unknown number.
If you stay with Tyler, you and that baby won’t be safe. Drive to the St. Regis. Suite 401.
My blood went cold.
I had known about the baby for less than five minutes.
