The house was dark when I walked in.
I turned on the kitchen light. Put the kettle on.
Normal.
Ten minutes later, the garage door opened.
Tyler walked in with a duffel bag.
“You’re back?”
“I forgot my wallet,” I said. “Tyler… what’s going on?”
He didn’t hesitate.
“I’m leaving.”
Of course.
No emotion. No hesitation.
“Is it Jessica?” I asked.
He froze.
“How do you—”
“A wife knows.”
I stepped closer, heart pounding.
“What about the accounts in my name?”
His eyes sharpened.
“What are you talking about?”
“I saw them,” I lied. “The money. The transactions. Tyler… is it illegal?”
He laughed.
Cruel. Ugly.
Then he grabbed my shoulders hard enough to hurt.
“Listen to me,” he hissed. “If anyone goes down for this, it’s you. I set everything up perfectly. You’re the fall girl.”
There it was.
Clear.
Cold.
Final.
He shoved me aside and headed for the basement.
I pulled out the recorder.
Stop. Save.
And then—
The door exploded open.
“FBI! GET ON THE GROUND!”
Everything happened at once.
Boots. Shouting. Glass breaking.
Tyler was dragged upstairs seconds later, handcuffed, furious, terrified.
“Elena! Tell them it’s a mistake!”
Then he saw the recorder.
He saw Julian.
And everything clicked.
“You set me up!” he screamed.
I stepped closer, one hand on my stomach.
“I didn’t set you up,” I said. “I protected myself.”
Then I leaned in slightly.
“And by the way… we’re having a baby.”
His face twisted.
“But don’t worry,” I added quietly. “You won’t be around to ruin this one.”
They took him out in cuffs.
And just like that—
It was over.
