Synopsis

The bank manager looked at my father’s work boots, then at his $312 payroll check, and said, “Poor men always argue over pennies.” He didn’t even tell the man that the check was drawn on that same bank’s account. He just paid the $35 “non-customer fee,” folded the receipt into his jacket pocket, and walked out like any tired man from a small American town.
